The M16 FD models are designed to meet the special requirements of those in fire fighting. Handles are CNC machined Fire Engine Red G10, which is light, strong and insulates against heat conductivity. In addition, the G10 handles have a very aggressive texture for better grip in wet conditions. 1 designs feature AUS 8 stainless steel blades, chosen for edge retention and durability. Black titanium nitride coating provides extreme corrosion resistance. Blade edges are Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated to handle rugged cutting tasks that break down standard cutting edges. All models feature the "Carson Flipper" extension to the blade, which aids opening, especially when wearing gloves, and acts as an additional blade guard. The M16-13 FD features a spear point blade with a false top edge. It is a slim profile design that is ideal for a variety of carry positions. One-hand opening and closing is velvet smooth, the result of Teflon bearings at the blade pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance. Also incorporated is the patented Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS), which makes the folders virtual fixed blades when actuated. Every model features a removable black Teflon plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip.
